The almost non-existent, winter temperatures have created an early summer for us here in south Florida, which means, the fishing can be really good .

So, for you “snowbird “ fisherman that go back north in April / May, I encourage you to stay just a little bit longer to enjoy our extraordinary fishing, at times.

Flyfishing:
Albies are the star until the tarpon show up . The species with a * are possible on fly.

Offshore:
May is generally a good month to fish our area . We have caught all the following fish in the last two weeks:
*Big kingfish, giant bull and sandbar sharks, and huge goliath grouper. Also included in the list are large *cravelle jack, snapper, *dolphin, *sailfish, *cobia, *bluefish, and as always, a surprise guest species such as a blue marlin.

Inshore:
*Pompano, *mackerel, *bluefish, *ladyfish ,and bonefish are some of the near shore species .

Backcountry:
This time of year we do fish in the estuaries, seawalls, bridges , and nightlights where some of the catches include, *snook, *jack, flounder ,and there are still a few *blues left.

God Bless ,

<![CDATA[Hot Spring Fishing]]>Sat, 07 Apr 2012 02:01:38 -0800http://seacretspot.com/1/post/2012/04/species-this-april.htmlPicture
Happy holidays to everyone!

This April we have quite a mixed variety of fish cooperating with anglers. Inshore, its been jack, ladyfiish, bluefish, snook and pompano caught on ultra light spinner and fly rods.

The Atlantic ocean has been a very good place to wet a line when the conditions are favorable.
Some of the fish we recently caught include, kingfish up to 30-pounds, mackerel, albies on fly, jumbo jack up to 35-pounds, cobia, giant sharks, dorado, yellowtail and mutton snapper. Not to be outdone by the giant goliath groupers.

The ocean, like the air temperature is already warmer than usual, in turn some of the summer fish are already showing up. We are keeping an eye out for permit, snook, and tarpon which may be here any day.

God Bless,
Cliff............<*///><

<![CDATA[Explosive Top Water Action]]>Mon, 05 Mar 2012 00:00:00 -0800http://seacretspot.com/1/post/2012/03/explosive-top-water-action.htmlPicture
Jeff and Jay with a jack caught on top water plug
Good day!

So far March has started out rather windy, with some turbulent seas. That's ok, we always have a Plan B ready to engage. Which means fishing inside the inlet around seawalls, grass flats, or mangrove estuaries.

Equipped with ultra light spinners, using top water plugs, Jeff and Jay of the midwest caught some hard fighting jack.

Most of the fish were good sized with one jumbo that took the younger Jay about 15 minutes to land.
Top water bait, is one of my favorite fishing methods, although the action can be slow to boring at times, a fish will chase your bait with heart stopping, explosive splashes, sometimes following the bait all the way to the boat.

Wow, it can be exciting!

Good luck and God bless,

<![CDATA[Mack Attack is On!!!]]>Mon, 20 Feb 2012 00:00:00 -0800http://seacretspot.com/1/post/2012/02/mack-attack-is-on.htmlGood Day Fishing Fans,

I can't believe that this is winter. It is so warm that the pineapples, mangoes, and almost all fruit trees are in bloom now. The birds are building nests as if it was spring time. I just hope we don't get a big Arctic blast of cold air, or else all the blossoms will die. The surf and air temp are up much higher than normal.

When it comes to fishing, there have been waves of migrating fish that have moved through our area.
Usually they stay here for months, this year we have to be out there and get lucky with a good day. If you don't go you could miss the bite.

Pompano, sharks, bluefish, jack, ladyfish, cobia, and mackerel are possible to catch on fly and light tackle near shore. Snook, small tarpon, jack, pompano, blues, and ladyfish are available in the backcountry. Kingfish, dolphin, sailfish, snapper, permit, and goliath grouper are possible offshore.

The jumbo mackerel were here yesterday, lots of them. I love catching them on fly or light spin tackle.
They are a blast to catch. They make long smooth runs and taste great, when iced and cooked that night.
Plus, they are loaded with that wonderful heart friendly omega oils.

Good luck and God bless,

<![CDATA[Kings Get Crowned by Porpoises]]>Fri, 03 Feb 2012 00:00:00 -0800http://seacretspot.com/1/post/2012/02/kings-get-crowned-by-porpoises.htmlGood day to all and welcome to the site.

Fishing with live bait, we caught 3 out of 9 kingfish hooked that were eaten off the hook by 2 hungry porpoises that kept hanging around the boat. These apex predators are so fast and maneuverable that not many fish escape their feeding frenzy when they decide to eat.

So a hooked fish is a cake walk. The kingfish were all smoker sized fish near 30-pounds.

Good luck fishing, have fun, and God Bless,

Hello and welcome to my site.

Today was another beautiful day fishing on the Treasure Coast. While it was a bit breezy, nobody complained.

It was nice having 3 experienced fishermen, fly-casting and spin fishing on board the boat today.

John, Mike and Bob from Rhode Island caught at least 30 ladyfish, and a variety of other fish which include, mutton snapper, lane snapper, jack, croaker, lizardfish, and our surprise species, Mike's pompano on fly.

Nice catch guys,

Happy anglers displaying their catch
Hello again fellow fishing fans!

Today, Karl, Dennis, and Jim, caught about 30-plus fish on the grass flats using ultra light tackle.

Our bait was the classic combo of hand tied jigs and shrimp.

The day was textbook perfect. We all had fun!

Lance and Samantha (6-years old ) of Wellington fished inshore and caught a variety of jack, ladyfish, croakers, and runners.

The action was consistent using hand-tied jig and shrimp combos, on ultra-light spin tackle.

Samantha was a quick learner catching multiple fish on her own after a little teaching.
We lost count of our 50-point per fish that Sam caught.

Good job Sam!

Good fishing and God Bless,

Michael a.k.a "Biggie", holding a 51-pound smoker king
Good day fishing fans!

Today we went hunting for the hard fighting, long running, "smoker" or jumbo kingfish.

The winds were variable from the north northwest, moving around to the north on occasion. Sky was overcast most of the day with the sun poking out only once in a while. Air temperature was bouncing from the 50's in the A.M., to the 60's during the middle of the day, then dropping when the sun got low in the sky.

All in all it was very pleasant on the water, only a 1-2 foot seas.

We started out catching some live bait. Once the wells were filled, we headed out to the deep blue sea.
There we drifted and anchored our way to some fast action fishing. The strange thing was it was all kings nothing else, although we did have a big battle with a mystery fish that got away before we could see it.
I think the most we waited was 20-minutes between bites. The fish all weighed between 17 to 51 pounds, and we had one fish that almost took all our 340 yards of line before it broke free.

Good fishing, good luck and God bless,

<![CDATA[Winter Fishing Wonderland]]>Mon, 09 Jan 2012 18:58:03 -0800http://seacretspot.com/1/post/2012/01/winter-fishing-wonderland.htmlHello fishing fans and happy new year!

Wintertime is a good time to fish our area, no matter which direction you go. The backcountry fishing is pretty good this time of year, with catches of up to 8-species in a single half day trip.

We are using ultra light spin, and fly tackle, with hand tied jigs and flies for bait.

Near shore , the varieties of fish can be extensive as well . Spinner shark, jack, bluefish, runners, ladyfish, mackerel, pompano are all possible catches.

Offshore, the sailfish, kings, dolphin, and snapper might take your bait offering.

Over all, the weather is great, with cool days and low humidity .

Good luck, have fun, and God bless,

Capt. Cliff----------------------<*///><
